About Turtle Island Restoration Network Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting marine wildlife and preserving the ecosystems that sustain life on Earth. Through hands-on restoration, community engagement, advocacy, and education, TIRN works to strengthen the relationship between people and the natural world. About the 10,000 Redwoods Program The 10,000 Redwoods Program uses redwood restoration as a catalyst for strengthening watersheds, addressing climate change, and reconnecting people with the natural world. Working with community land partners, schools, volunteers, and local organizations, the program supports redwood planting, seed collection, environmental education, and community-led stewardship. Our goal extends beyond planting trees: we want to build lasting relationships between people and the ecosystems they depend on. About the Role We're looking for a proactive, organized, and community-minded person to help advance the 10,000 Redwoods Program. The Community Engagement & Program Coordinator will support the program through community engagement, volunteer coordination, education outreach, event planning, and program administration. Working directly with the 10,000 Redwoods Program Manager and collaborating with other TIRN staff, the Coordinator will help maintain relationships with community land partners, connect with schools and volunteers, coordinate planting activities, support outreach events, and keep program information organized and up to date. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys connecting people with environmental restoration and can balance relationship-building with the practical work required to keep projects moving. We're looking for someone who takes initiative, works independently, and follows through on commitments. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing recurring responsibilities, identifying opportunities to improve existing processes, and communicating proactively with colleagues and community partners. Key Responsibilities Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinate with community land partners to schedule redwood plantings, confirm logistics, and communicate next steps. Maintain relationships with existing partners and support engagement with prospective landowners and community organizations. Follow up with partners regarding planting activities, tree care, and monitoring. Maintain accurate records of partner communications, planting schedules, and outstanding needs. Volunteer Engagement and Events Create and maintain a volunteer database, including contact information, interests, and participation. Identify and communicate volunteer opportunities, including redwood seed collection, planting, and community outreach. Support volunteer recruitment, communication, and follow-up. Help organize planting events, volunteer activities, and community gatherings. Education Outreach Connect with schools, youth serving organizations, and other community groups interested in participating in the Riparian Explorer Project and other educational activities. Explore opportunities for school-based redwood planting and redwood nursery projects. Follow up with interested educators and coordinate agreed-upon next steps. Help coordinate school participation in planting events and other program activities. Community Outreach and Communications Support Identify opportunities to raise awareness of the program through community events, tabling, conferences, and other outreach activities. Help create outreach materials, including posters, flyers, event invitations, and other engagement products. Coordinate with TIRN's communications team on appropriate social media and other outreach opportunities. Help prepare materials, coordinate logistics, and support follow-up for public-facing events. Program Coordination and Data Management Maintain and update program databases, including seed collection records, seed-producing tree information, and community land partner records. Organize program information and ensure records are accurate, consistent, and accessible. Document planting activities, volunteer participation, and relevant follow-up needs. Identify gaps or inconsistencies in existing records and recommend practical improvements. Qualifications and Experience Relevant experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, environmental education, conservation, event planning, nonprofit work, or a related field. Experience may come from professional employment, volunteer work, community-based initiatives, or a combination of these. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and follow through on commitments. Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate with a team. Familiarity with databases, spreadsheets, or other tools for organizing information. Experience working within Canva is a big plus. Interest in environmental restoration, watershed health, and community-based conservation. Willingness and ability to meet with community partners, volunteers, educators, and other stakeholders in person as needed. Experience organizing events, coordinating volunteers, working with schools, or supporting environmental restoration programs is particularly valuable. Turtle Island Restoration Network is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. We encourage applicants with diverse experiences and perspectives to apply.
