Custodian – Room Setups Strathcona Place Society — Edmonton, AB Part-time · 6-month term, with possibility of extension · from $18/hour · Immediate start · On site Strathcona Place Society is a well-established senior centre serving seniors through arts, recreation, physical activities, programs, special events, and intergenerational and multicultural events. We are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our staff as a Custodian. This is an inclusive work environment. You will be responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the interior and exterior of our senior centre — hands-on, self-guided work, including setting up program rooms. This is a six-month term position, with the possibility of extension depending on the centre's needs. There is a 3-month probationary period. Primary responsibilities: * General cleaning of the whole centre, interior and exterior: offices, common rooms, multipurpose and meeting rooms, program rooms, dining room, and kitchen * Room setups: work with the Program Coordinator to make sure rooms are set up for programs — tables and chairs ready before programs begin, throughout the day and at end of day for the next day * Year-round upkeep of outside areas: yardwork and sidewalks * Planting and maintaining flowers in summer; cutting grass * Shovelling snow and salting sidewalks in winter * Prepare the centre for operations: snow shovelling after snowfall, checking the security of the centre, and making sure the centre is ready before opening * Secure the building when leaving — no windows or doors left open * Assist seniors carrying donations to the appropriate storage rooms; assist woodworkers with repairs as needed * Report any building or maintenance issues to the Executive Director Qualifications: * No experience required — training provided. Custodial experience is an asset and is reflected in the starting rate from $18 * Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment; comfortably lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs * Self-motivated, able to multitask, attention to detail; works well independently and as part of a team * Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening required Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM start, 5 hours per day (25 hours per week), on site. Some weekend and evening work may be required, with proper notice given in advance.
