About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical center in San Antonio, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
PRINCIPALES MISSIONS :
Construct and apply a wide variety of splints and casts.
Fit, customize, and repair a variety of off-the-shelf braces and orthotic devices.
Function as an assistant during operative and non-operative procedures.
Greet and log patients and provide instruction and information on procedures to be performed.
Instruct patient in follow-up procedures, patient instruction and education on brace application, injections, training with crutches, and dressing changes.
Ensure all needed records, X-rays and medical reports (i.e., lab slips, CT results, X-rays, bone scan, arthrogram consultations and inpatient charts) are available to the physician.
Monitor and maintain stock level and expiration dates of sterile equipment, supplies and medications.
Aid Medical Support Assistants in booking appointments, answering phones, greeting and checking in patients, preparing paperwork for patient encounters.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUISES :
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing sterile area for procedures; modifying casts and/or splits for orthopedic patients; and maintaining inventory of supplies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Orthopedics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
