PRINCIPALES MISSIONS :
You will serve as a principal port engineer for assigned ocean-going vessels, including those powered by steam and/or diesel and/or gas turbine.
You will determine, plan, and schedule all technical work requirements for all availabilities for assigned ships.
You will use standardized procedures to estimate all maintenance and repair industrial assistance work packages and establish funding against these work requirements using the MSC financial management system.
You will serve as the point of contact for technical issues related to shipboard readiness and maintenance and repair.
You will plan and execute policy and procedures for designing, building, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling MSC's worldwide fleet of ships.
You will provide the technical interface with internal and external parties on ships' design and engineering operations.
You will provide cross program technical support for MSC ship life cycle management, construction, conversion, and replacement efforts during design, construction, and subsequent operation.
You will plan for and manage the development of contract guidance plans and specifications.
You will oversee the safety environmental and damage control programs and plan for preventative and predictive maintenance.
You will plan and perform shipboard tests and inspections for MSC ships and provide technical assistance on complex engineering problems and their solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUISES :
GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working with marine propulsion systems including gas turbines systems, steam turbine systems, medium speed diesel systems, slow speed diesel systems, and diesel electric systems. Experience managing ship life cycle plans by planning, directing and coordinating the maintenance and repair activities requiring industrial assistance for assigned ships. Experience prioritizing shipboard work requirements against life cycle plans, budgetary requirements and limitations. Experience coordinating development of test programs for overhauled equipment or for new installations of all types of shipboard equipment and systems including main machinery and boilers. GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working with shipboard main and auxiliary systems including main propulsion systems, electrical distribution systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, firefighting systems, cargo systems, fuel systems, lubricating systems, communicating systems, seawater systems, auxiliary boiler systems, and all varieties of piping systems. Experience developing and reviewing plans, work items and cost estimates for maintenance and repair and ship alteration work for assigned ships. Experience conducting ship checks to verify the work items technical requirements and regularly work with the ships force to troubleshoot systems and technically analyze the cause of casualties.
