Staff Psychologist (Behavioral Medicine)

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. PRINCIPALES MISSIONS : The psychologist serves within the Integrated Care Program-Behavioral Medicine, which falls within the VA Northern California Health Care System (NCHCS) Mental Health Service. The primary job functions of psychologists at the GS-13 level include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, education of staff and participation in Psychology Training Program(s), including training committee activities, providing didactics, and supervision of practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows, with protected time established by OAA and the VANCHCS Supervision Manual. While some virtual care may be provided as appropriate, please note this is not a 100% virtual position. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provides psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery, transplant, or other surgical candidates utilizing approved clinical guidelines Provides a full range of psychodiagnostic services including assessment for wide range of psychological and behavioral medicine issues for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions and disabilities Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues on an outpatient basis Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address comorbid medical/mental health needs of patients Tracks consultations and provides timely contact with newly referred patients Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a respecialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the respecialization program) meeting both of the following conditions: the respecialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
